HIF Global moves forward in Uruguay

Paysandú, Uruguay – February 28, 2025.- HIF Global, the world’s leading e-Fuels company, has obtained the approval of the Complementary Integrated Action Program (PAIC) for the recategorization of the land on which the HIF Paysandú e-Fuels facility will be located. The approval of the land recategorization by the Departmental Council is a preliminary step before the Environmental Impact Assessment process, which falls under the jurisdiction of DINACEA.

The preparation of this document, which involved more than a year of collaboration between the Paysandú Municipality and the company, incorporated recommendations from the National Directorate of Environmental Quality and Assessment (DINACEA) of the Ministry of Environment (MA) and received approval from the National Directorate of Land Management (DINOT) of the Ministry of Housing and Land Management (MVOT). The PAIC also included input gathered through community engagement in the departmental capital and the town of Constancia.

Martín Bremermann, CEO of HIF Uruguay, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating that it marks the achievement of a key step in the project's implementation. "This approval represents a crucial institutional endorsement for the project and positions Paysandú among the leading locations globally in the transition to e-Fuels. It is a very significant step that allows us to move forward with the next stages of development” he said.

The project outlines the new categorization of the two plots near the town of Constancia. It establishes numerous environmental commitments that the company must fulfill, including the creation of a reserve through the legal framework of an ecological easement and criteria for the environmental management of the HIF Paysandú e-Fuels facility. The initiative covers an area of 163 hectares, which will be designated as a nature reserve managed by the company under the same standards as the National System of Protected Areas.

With the HIF Paysandú project, Uruguay strengthens its position as a key player in the production of synthetic fuels. With over 90% of its electricity coming from renewable sources and access to port infrastructure, it is an ideal candidate for e-Fuel exports.
