Paysandú, Uruguay – February 29, 2025.- HIF Global, the world’s leading e-Fuels company, has begun the environmental approval process for the construction of its solar photovoltaic plant in Paysandú, Uruguay. The plant will have a capacity of 1,162 MW and provide renewable energy to the HIF Paysandú e-Fuels facility.
The solar farm includes a transmission line for interconnection with the electric distribution grid. The construction is expected to take approximately 18 months and generate an average of 400 direct jobs during this phase.
With an estimated investment of US$ 6 billion, the project aims to position Uruguay as one of the leading countries in the production of synthetic fuels. The facility is expected to produce 700,000 tons of e-Fuels per year. According to the company, this production could reduce CO2 emissions by 1 million tons annually.
Martin Bremermann, CEO of HIF Uruguay, stated: “This step represents a major advance in our commitment to Uruguay’s energy transition. We are working diligently to comply with all current regulations. This is part of a broader set of actions we are undertaking to ensure HIF Global brings the e-Fuels facility in Paysandú into operation”.
The company’s initiative includes the construction of a production facility, a solar and wind farm, and a transmission line for interconnection with UTE’s power grid.
